Aloha, my name is RT Serikawa. I owe most of the influence within my work to these islands, my culture, and the communities that raised me into who I am today. When I began running to the ocean and mountains in my adolescence, I met so many friends who inspired me, and fell deeply in love with that adventurous time. That’s when I picked up a camera… cause I just couldn’t fight the urge to document it all. Visual storytelling is meaningful. It has not only deepened my appreciation for life, creation, and the beauty of this world, but also feeds my passion for sharing it with others in a unique way. Through photography, filmmaking, and the exploration of such ,I strive to contribute in a positive way to a fabric that is much larger than myself.
After doing this full time on my own for the last 2 years, I'm really looking forward to working with a talented team of like minded individuals. The opportunity to learn from each other and bounce off our individual styles really excites me. Above everything, we are all Hawaiian, which gives us a connection that is deeper than just photo, video, or design work. Our culture has a lot to do with the way that we tell stories, interact with the world, and give us all a unique lens. To work with people of a similar background is humbling, exciting, and gives me a sense of pride. To me, being Hawaiian is being able to share stories like our ancestors. I enjoy telling genuine stories in a way that isn't staged.
